Taming the Chaos

How do you start your day? Do you jump out of bed, start moving and never stop until your head hits the pillow at night? Or do you take some time to center yourself and set clear intentions for the day?

Ever since starting my morning routine, my days have been less stressful and chaotic. I have been doing some type of morning routine for as long as I can remember, but it hasn’t been until recently that I have really fine tuned that routine and what a difference it has made. When I miss my morning routine or skip one of the steps, I really notice it in how my day plays out.

There are several things I faithfully do as part of my morning routine, but today I want to focus on one in particular, meditation. As you can see in my Vision Board, one of my core values is Mindfulness. There are a few ways that I stay committed to mindfulness, meditation is one of the core pieces. Before I get into the benefits of meditation, as a side note, if you haven’t sat down and identified your core values, I highly recommend making time to do so. It has been a real game changer for me and will be discussion for another day, just felt compelled to plant the seed.

So now onto meditation. I am not going to get into the different types of meditation in this particular post, but just know there is a variety and it is important to find the one that resonates with you, and know it can change over time as you become more advanced in your meditation practice. I am still a novice in the area of meditation, but I wanted to share with you the benefits and how it has impacted my life. Now for some of the benefits:

· Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations

· Building skills to manage your stress

· Increasing self-awareness

· Focusing on the present

· Reducing negative emotions

· Increasing imagination and creativity

· Increasing patience and tolerance

· Lowering resting heart rate

· Lowering resting blood pressure

· Improving sleep quality

Wow, just by spending a few minutes a day, what an impact, right? You don’t have to spend a lot of time on meditation, to start seeing the benefits. You can start with as little as 5 minutes a day, if you think sitting still for too long will be a struggle. The most important part is to start. Once you get started, you will see how easy it will be to add a few more minutes each day. Right now, I usually spend about 12-15 minutes each morning and it has really made a huge impact on my day. I have noticed that I am a lot calmer, more energized and just overall excited about starting my day since incorporating meditation into my morning routine. And on days when I skip my meditation, for whatever reason, I really notice the change in how a feel. So I try to stay committed to this mindful daily habit and I encourage you to consider adding it to your morning routine if you haven’t already. Here’s to taming the chaos!!
