If you have followed my story at all you know that I have been on a personal growth journey for almost twenty years. And if you yourself have been on a similar journey, you understand that the journey never ends, that new things are uncovered or need to be worked on, yes?
So as I continue on my journey, I have decided to reclaim my maiden name. At this stage of my journey, I have come to the conclusion that I need to stop running away from that girl and reclaim her. To stand in the truth of who she was and give her all the time, attention and love she deserves.
From as far back as I can remember, I have been trying to run away from her and become someone else. And as such, my whole adult life, my identity has been under a different name. At first it was my husband’s name, when I got married at the age of 20 years. And then it was my ex-husband’s name when we divorced nearly sixteen years later. Then it was a name I chose to keep, because my daughter had the same name. She has been married now for seven years and no longer carries that name. Lastly, it was the name I had my entire adult life and from which my career(s) were had.
However, now as I move into my fifty-fifth year and marking twenty years on this personal growth journey, I felt moved to reclaim that little girl I have been running from. So, I have officially, changed my name back to my maiden name, Lisa A. Hammer. To say it feels weird to type that name and soon to be referred to by that name again, is an understatement, but I feel it is what needs to be done to continue to grow and become the best authentic version of myself! I still have to go through all the mess of changing all the legal documents, but the paperwork has been filed, signed and sealed and I am officially, at least in the eyes of the Court, Lisa A. Hammer.
I am excited to usher in 2023 and see what the New Year will bring!!! Let the journey begin!
