Would you do this?

Writer's picture: Lisa HammerLisa Hammer

It wasn't long ago that I would not have posed for this photo or any photo for that matter. I used to hate getting my picture taken. I didn't grow up in front of a camera, like the younger generation has, since cell phones were non-existent when I was younger. So I never became comfortable in front of a camera.

Truth be told, it wasn't until I went through the pre-photo shoot guide, that came with my branding package, thanks Cristin Goss, did I finally become comfortable in front of the camera.

Even with my new found comfort level, this photo right here gave me pause. I had a jacket on in some of the initial photos in this segment, but it was so muggy that day, the jacket was getting uncomfortable, so it had to come off. I was hesitant to continue taking photos without it, but I realized that this was part of my message, getting comfortable with the uncomfortable, so I pushed on.

Although, I don't particularly like the muffin top in this photo, I know it represents the truth about where I was in that moment and I choose to love myself right where I am, even as I continue to work on improving myself.

So I return to the question at the beginning of this post - "Would you do this?" feel comfortable exposing, for all to see, the not so perfect body or would you hide behind the jacket or not even get in front of the camera at all?

I encourage you to embrace all of you, even the parts you don't like too much, particularly those parts you don't like too much, because those are the parts that need the most love and attention.

This question doesn't only pertain to your body! Are there parts of yourself that you are hiding from the world, because you are fearful of what others will think? If so, I encourage you to take off the jacket - let the world see the real you because you are beautiful, amazing, unique and we need you to be you! Be bold, be courageous, be you!
